![]() So, just out of interest, unless somebody can say 'You are a very stupid person and this is definitely what you are doing wrong' (or words to that effect), I will copy all the technical wording which I can find and try to ask on the RT forum site. There is something in the set up about creating a Shortcut Link which I didn't understand so I clicked 'Do not create link'. And when it freezes, there are a couple of pages of errors listed. Something about a 'Parent and Child' file being incorrect and a missing folder in the directory. When I look at the technical wording page, which operates behind the RT main working page, I see that it is reporting some errors before I even start. I'm just doing basic individual conversions plus capture sharpening with a little Unsharp Mask It is just the RAW convertion which I think could be better and the RT conversion does appear to be sharper with less noise. There are still a couple of days left for the April special offer.īasically I am perfectly happy with Photo Plus as a relatively cheap editor which enables easy use of layers, masks, etc. I will have proper look at the Sagelight programme later. I have been shooting mostly RAW for several years and originally used the Canon RAW converters (currently DPP) then when Photo Plus X3 included it's own converter I switched to that. I can happily use the Serif Converter but just wondered how much of my inability with RT is down to my usual ID-ten-T set up! I have downloaded the RT 'How to use' information but found it to be a bit technical on the computer language side while being rather basic on 'advanced' photo editing information. But when I attempt anything more, like adjusting brightness or levels of noise, etc, the programme frequently freezes or totally crashes. If I just use the default settings then Click Save Image, everything works fine. I am continuing to do my main editing with Photo Plus, so it is only the RAW Conversion stage that I am talking about here.Īdmitedly, 90% of my problems are probably of my own making but I find RT needs very slow and careful adjustments. My experiments, so far, suggest that when I can achieve success, the results are sharper and cleaner images. In general I find 3.0 to be easier to use and a bit more stable. I have experimented with versions 2.4 and 3.0. The Highlight Recovery is little more than excessive underexposure and I usually get better results by just tweaking the Exposure settings.Īfter hearing several people recommending Raw Therapee, I had given it a trial but found it to be very unstable. About equal to Canon DPP in overall performance. ![]() Same apparently goes for old RAW only files.I use Serif Photo Plus X3 for editing and although I am generally happy with the programme I have found their RAW Converter to be a bit on the basic side. Looks like only solution is to export combined file (RAW and JPEG) then use the separated files. According to one thread on another site I should be able to select which file (RAW/JPEG) I want to edit when I hit enter. If I select the same file in Photos (tagged top left as “RAW + JPEG”) and press return I get a “Cannot Start Editing, Photos cannot load adjustments for this image” box. When I export the same file using “export unmodified Original for 1 Photo” with Export IPTC checked and sub folder format “none” I get both the JPEG and the RAW file successfully exported. When I try to export a Nikon D500 Raw + JPEG file from 2012 in Photos from either her MB Pro or my Mac mini using “export 1 photo” as a TIFF, 16 Bit, Full Size to a Documents sub folder, I get the “Export Complete with Errors” window showing the file name and error “the operation couldn’t be completed. Helpful suggestions all Tony, but the last one is the key. tif (unless this is something to do with raw/jpg pairs, which I don't use) How are you exporting? I don't know why you are getting a folder with a tif file inside, I just get a tif file with the standard filename, and the extension. Note, even if you export jpg to jpg, the exported file will be different, since the exported file is always resaved with the options you have chosen for size/quality, plus edits if they exist. The export operation takes whatever you have tagged as your current version (raw or jpg) applies the edits you have made, and converts the result to whatever export format you have asked for. If you export to TIFF there is no jpg (except as stored inside your library). Once they are removed any new edits applied in photos should be fine, AND will be exported to TIFF files. I'm guessing the edits were made with a different app in the past (eg iPhoto or aperture), and are no longer compatible with photos. Revert to original just removes the edits that are applied to that photo.
